USD $30,563 !!!

Heading out on June 3rd - 2023,  our intrepid riders and crew will be taking on one of the most epic rides in history as they tackle the wilds of Mongolia to raise money to help some of the neediest children on the planet - the children who scavenge in the garbage to survive!  The riders will be taking on the challenge of riding the longest annual charity horseback ride in the world with a  goal of
700 kilometers in 10 days of riding!

Introducing The Riders of the 2023 Gobi Gallop

The Gobi Gallop seems to me to be just the right way to combine three things that are important to me: horses; travel/learning about the world; and helping people.  I think one gets to understand a place and its people much better in such a framework (i.e., with a project or goal of some kind), and what better than doing it from horseback?!

The Gobi Gallop: combining a challenging ride with an opportunity to gather support for a very worthwhile project. I am covering all of the expenses for the trip myself. Therefore, all of the money donated and raised will go directly to support the work of the Veloo Foundation in Mongolia, a charity registered in Canada.

I am thrilled to be joining the Gobi Gallop 2023, which will see our group honor the legacy of Mongolian horsemanship by travelling across 700 kilometers of Mongolian countryside on native horses under the direction of local guides. At the time of this writing, the route is yet to be determined but may include steppe, plain, river crossings and more, but one fact is certain—we will #chafeforcharity in order to raise funds for the Veloo Foundation’s Children of the Peak Project.

My trips horse trekking through outer Mongolia May 2021 AND the previous July 2021 were two of the most incredible experiences of my life. An opportunity to repeat it and raise money for the kindergarten absolutely floats my boat

Mongolia is a place that has loomed large in my imagination.  I have been looking for a way to tie together the different parts of my life: wilderness, horses, and a yearning to leave a place better than I found it.  I think I have found it in the Gobi Gallop. To be able to travel through the country on horseback, and to get to know the people there, hear their stories, and laugh with them would fulfill a dream I have had since I was a kid.

I strongly believe that education is a vital liberator, that can open up options for people to choose their own future and break free from poverty. The Gobi Gallop is an amazing adventure that I am really excited to join. It brings together my love of horse riding, exploring new places, supporting an excellent cause and learning about a new culture and language!!

This is not simply a pleasure trip, this ride is to support the Children of the Peak Sanctuary whose mission is to provide a safe space and education for children who would otherwise have a very uncertain future. The alternative path for these children is often tragic, reduced to scavenging in landfill for any objects of value to support their lives and families.

I’m excited to part of fund raising for this incredible foundation that is changing the lives and futures of families, whose survival is dependent on what they can scavenge from the dump. The Veloo Foundation provides education, food, clothing and a safe place for the children whilst helping the adults with employment and vocational training. They’re building infrastructure such as toilets and shower facilities. They organise and coordinate food and clothing drives. Just have a look for yourself and you will see what incredible, worthwhile and extraordinary work is being done.

My  dream of living with my horses has blossomed into rescuing young and mature horses, learning how to deal with all kinds of injury and illness, and learning how to train them to be calm, confident, and capable. I have now competed in endurance riding for five years with rescued horses. I love exploring challenging terrain with my brave mares and helping them expand their abilities. And I am incredibly excited about new adventures with like minded people in Mongolia!

Why the Gobi Gallop? The short answer, it represents everything that I believe in; serving children, adventure, and testing limits in a new environment; in this case, the Mongolian Steppe. Plus, as an avid horsewoman, The Gobi Gallop offers the opportunity to stretch both my physical and mental limits while simultaneously opening my heart and yours to some of the world’s neediest children.
