From May 18 to June 4, Scott Muir, Glenn Watt and Andy Curtis will be part of a team of 8 attempting to summit Denali in Alaska via the West Buttress route in an effort to show just how far ....and HIGH... some people will go to help the children! Originally hailing from Australia, New Zealand and the U.K. the three now reside in Mongolia and have committed to using this amazing challenge to raise awareness of and money to help Veloo Foundation help some of the most disenfranchised children on the planet - the children from the Ulaan Chuuluut Rubbish Tip community. Here's your chance to join the team helping the kids and truly make a difference, one child at a time!

in the hills in and around Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
These amazing adventurers are putting it all on the line for a chance to defeat one of the most challenging mountains on the planet AND raise funds to help the children who climb their own Peak every day to the Ulaanchuuluut garbage dump to scavenge for food, fuel and things to sell!

The windswept and permanently snow-capped Peak of Denali. See below for more information on the incredibly challenging conditions Glenn, Scott and Andy will be facing.
The Children from the Children of the Peak Sanctuary live each day under threat: threat of hunger, cold and loneliness along with illness, injury and neglect.  "Tolgoit" or "Peak" is the local name for the region that houses the Ulaan Chuuluut Garbage dump and is home to the Children of the Peak Sanctuary. Each day 132 children climb to the Children of the Peak Sanctuary Kindergarten where they are fed, warmed and educated. Here they have access to excellent food, international standard education, friendship, warmth and safety instead of spending their days  as they used to, scavenging to survive. There are, however, still another 150 or so preschool aged children in the area who carry on beyond the kindergarten and each day summit their own "Peak" to spend their day on the garbage dump scavenging to survive. By raising funds for ongoing operations and also in support of our second kindergarten to the help the children still scavenging, Scott, Glenn and Andy through this epic undertaking have chosen to help them all!

The team will carry with them a flag designed and made by the Children and will plant the Children of the Peak's flag high atop Mount Denali as a testament to victory. With your help, we will be able to ensure another victory and provide food, care and support for ALL the  Children of #ThePeak.

How Challenging will this be? Well, it's the highest Peak in North America and by some measurements, higher than Everest!

How tall is Denali?

This is the highest peak in North America and at 6,195 m above sea level and will provide some challenging conditions! There is a distinction between measuring "highest" and "tallest." The highest mountain is determined by measuring a mountain's highest point above sea level. The tallest mountain is measured from base to summit. Using that measurement, Denali is taller than Mount Everest. Denali rises about 18,000 feet (5,500 meters) from its base, which is a greater vertical rise than Everest’s 12,000-foot rise (3,700 meters) from its base at 17,000 feet (5,200 meters). In his book, "The Finest Peaks: Prominence and Other Mountain Measures" (Trafford, 2005), Adam Helman wrote, "The base to peak rise of Mount McKinley is the largest of any mountain that lies entirely above sea level."

Denali’s climate

The upper half of Denali is permanently covered with snow and many glaciers, some more than 30 miles (48 km) long. The mountain’s extreme cold, which can be minus 75 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 60 degrees Celsius) with wind chill down to minus 118 F (minus 83 C), can freeze a human in an instant. An automated weather station at 18,700 feet (5,700 meters) records temperatures. More than 400,000 people visit Denali National Park and Preserve each year, primarily between May and September. An estimated 32,000 people have attempted to reach the summit, with about a 50 percent success rate. There are many guides who lead climbing trips to Denali, and it is classified as an extremely challenging expedition due to the severe weather and difficulty in acclimating. Because of its far northern latitude of 63 degrees, Denali has lower barometric pressure than the world’s other high mountains.
