My first association with Mongolia was work related at the start of 2013. Before this I had spent my life travelling around our beautiful planet and this destination felt like the last frontier. As I moulded myself into a life style very different to anything I had experienced, I found the Mongolian people to be incredibly warm and generous. I fell in love with the people, country and culture immediately. The marked difference between conversations from other countries I had travelled and home was, everybody always mentioned how they respected their countryside and how we need to respect and manage it correctly. It was music to my ears as these people were passionate about it. As luck would have it, I met the most beautiful woman in the world Boko. Boko showed me around her country with massive pride and passion. It was infectious and I grew to love the respect she has for her country and people. After my contract finished, she moved to Australia then we eventually married 4 years ago.

I found it very interesting that Boko’s biggest goal was to build schools in Mongolia and make a difference to the children. This goal resonated with me and caused me to wonder how I could be a part of this. It’s a huge dream and massive commitment that seemed unachievable but this can now be a reality with our connection to the Veloo Foundation.
As I travelled between the Gobi desert and the capital Ulaanbaatar, I witnessed a percentage of the population not living their best life. With temperatures ranging from -40 in winter to +40 in summer, I wondered how it could be possible to survive un-protected or without shelter. That is when I started to hear about the Veloo Foundation and the great work they are doing. They are helping displaced family’s carve a life away from the city dumps where they are living due to circumstances beyond their control.
When we heard the Veloo Foundation were organising a Steel Horse Gallop as a fund raiser to help build schools, this was an opportunity not to be missed. I have always found travelling on motorcycles to be the best way to experience and, immerse in the culture with all countries I have visited. It gives you time to stop, time to communicate and learn from the people that are the stewards of the land I am travelling through. With your support, we will also help my wife Boko achieve a small part of her dream. Making a difference one child at a time.
I am looking forward to riding the Steppes of Mongolia for a great cause but most of all, I know how proud my wife will be to help the people of her land achieve their dreams as well.
