In May, 2026 Nancy will set off on an expedition of unparalleled distance and importance. She will be riding 4,000 kilometers across the breadth and width of Mongolia and all of it to help disadvantaged Mongolian children who are being helped by Veloo Foundation's Children of the Peak Sanctuary Project.
Mongolian Adventure!
A message from Nancy O’Neill:
Early in 2019 I met a fellow British Columbian at a coffee shop to talk all things Mongolian as me and my daughter were chosen to compete in the 2020 version of the Mongol Derby. This fascinating lady is Julie Veloo, the founder of the Veloo Foundation and the most inspirational person I’ve ever met. Needless to say, we bonded over all things horse. After my attempt at the Derby (that was pushed to 2022), I wrote a children’s book that was inspired by my Mongolian experience. To me, Mongolia has a soul that sings and the heartbeat that is the sound of hoof beats. The proceeds of this book go to the Veloo Foundation. This foundation was created in 2013 to help families and children find a new existence in Ulanbataar rather than scavenging for food and items in the dump. The new culture that she established and manages is the Children of the Peak Sanctuary, Soaring Crane Camp and Gandys Kids Campus Community Library. Passion for a better way for all is what drives this wonderful foundation.
When asked if I wanted to go on the longest horse ride for this wonderful charity, there was no question! The ability to do this is not lost on me as an equestrian is worth all the chafing, sore muscles. I am extremely honored to do this.
