Hi from Michele in New Zealand
I have dreamed of visiting Mongolia for as many years as I can remember and through the wonder of the internet..... I found out about the Gobi Gallop. For many months after, my reaction was 'they are all totally mad!'. Meanwhile, I was researching a more regular excursion to Mongolia complete with a 'tourist' horse ride.
One evening, a dear UK friend of mine said 'LET'S JUST DO IT' .... so we did. We both signed up to be considered for the 2019 ride. The rest, as they say, is history! The Gobi Gallop is unlike anything I have ever done. Every aspect is a big deal to me, other than the huge skies and solitude. These I just love!
I have never ridden longer than 5 hours at a stretch. My knees have ached since age 16. My morning really (really) hot shower is an essential part of my day. Do tents still exist.......? I am too blind without my contact lenses to see a skyscraper let alone my room mate (actually, this could be an advantage for both of us!). I am used to riding larger horses with traditional European techniques. I am even panicking about the end of ride Gala (posh frocks and people.....). I will be totally out of my comfort zone for the entire ride duration.....
However, the opportunity to raise funds for such an amazing cause, whilst doing something so unique, alongside an animal I adore, more than makes up for 10 days of hard work and challenges. I can't wait!
To raise sponsorship money, I have dusted off my freelance teaching diary. So far, ten of the wonderful ladies at my local riding club are booking regular lessons with me with all the proceeds going towards the Gobi Gallop. Their support and enthusiasm in helping me to raise money for this great cause is humbling. They will be sharing my journey, quite literally, from start to finish. No backing out now!
For my less local family and friends, (and those with more sense than to ride a horse!) I am hoping the donate button will beckon brightly

My fundraising goal this year is $5,000.00 through donations and fundraising events.
Please join "Team Michele" and help me make a difference for the children and families living in abject poverty and scavenging in the garbage to survive.
NOTE - Qualified US and Canadian Donors will receive a tax receipt for their donation and 100% of all donations in support of the Gobi Gallop go directly to help the children!!
