Mongolian Adventure!

Before coming to Mongolia, I had never ridden a horse before. I arrived here in August, ready for new experiences and adventures but not imagining that I would find both on horseback. I have found riding to be one of the best ways to explore the vast and beautiful Mongolian countryside and to learn more about Mongolian culture through the people and animals I have encountered. Riding across the Mongolian steppe I have gained an appreciation and respect for the nomadic herders who are more in touch with their basic human roots than anyone I have ever met before.
People in this country have a true kindness and welcoming community spirit where everyone is eager to help others. Getting lost or stuck in muddy rivers is never a problem in Mongolia, because the local people will always do what they can to get you back on the right path. Mongolia's wild and untouched grasslands, pine forests and mountain landscapes have long sustained one of the last nomadic cultures on Earth. Now, due mainly to climate change this is under threat. Huge numbers of livestock deaths have driven a human exodus from the land and into the capital city of Ulaanbaatar. The city, built to sustain 750000 people is now at bursting point with 1.5million residents, many of them displaced nomads who are struggling to find a new way of life. As a result, Ulaanbaatar is home to some of the poorest people in the world. People who once lived independently from the land are forced instead to scour the garbage dump for anything which will help them and their families to survive.
The Veloo Foundation is committed to helping these families by providing shelter, food and education to help to alleviate the suffering of those who have been otherwise forgotten and neglected. I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to raise awareness and money for such an important cause and to give something back to the country that has given me so much in the short time that I have lived here. Please know that if you choose to donate, 100% of your donation will go directly to charity. My ride is funded independently of this.
