Friends and Family,
I have the privilege of riding in Mongolia to raise awareness and funds for the Veloo foundation which provides education to displaced children in Mongolia. To show my support, I will (attempt!) to ride 100 miles in one day!! Although it sounds daunting, it's small compared to the challenges children and families have across the globe. Mongolians have lived a nomadic life for centuries. As part of this experience, I will have the opportunity to sample a taste of that as we will ride each day to train for the last push, that 100-mile ride. However, as change happens, many nomadic families have been pushed to the capital city, Ulaanbaatar and do not have the education or training to survive. The Veloo foundation is helping the situation by providing schools and education for these families. It was started by Julie (great name :) Veloo who moved to the city for work and saw these people - families and children - living in landfills. You can never unsee something like that. |
Regardless of where you may sit on current events, it is important to remember that we are all part of humanity. As in yoga we say, we are all one. And, despite the difficulties that we may imagine exist right now, we were all very fortunate to be born where we were, to live the lives that we do. My purpose on this ride is to bring awareness to an area of the world - a country even - that many people are not familiar with. In acknowledging that, I am just asking everyone who reads this to not open your pocketbooks wide but rather just donate a dollar, maybe a full cup of coffee just to give your thumbs up for this cause.
