I'm Valerie Lou. 


Mongolia is a place that has loomed large in my imagination.  I have been looking for a way to tie together the different parts of my life: wilderness, horses, and a yearning to leave a place better than I found it.  I think I have found it in the Gobi Gallop. 

To be able to travel through the country on horseback, and to get to know the people there, hear their stories, and laugh with them would fulfill a dream I have had since I was a kid.  

The support that the Veloo Foundation is able to offer the children and community of Ulaanbaatar is awe inspiring.  By providing schooling, resources, and job training to people scavenging for a living at the Ulaanbaater trash dump, the Veloo Foundation has uplifted the poorest segment of the city.  I hope to be able to contribute to this cause, and to witness how a group of people can indeed make changes for the better against incredible odds.
This is why I am riding the longest annual charity endurance ride in the world.
