A Message from Christina:

I am thrilled to be joining the Gobi Gallop 2023, which will see our group honor the legacy of Mongolian horsemanship by traveling across 700 kilometers of Mongolian countryside on native horses under the direction of local guides. At the time of this writing, the route is yet to be determined but may include steppe, plain, river crossings, and more, but one fact is certain—we will #chafeforcharity in order to raise funds for the Veloo Foundation’s Children of the Peak Project.

I am a lifelong horsewoman, having been given a series of lessons “just for the summer” at the age of 8. Since that time, my love for horses has taken me to over thirty US states and three continents to teach, train or explore with horses. Though I have done a little of everything on horseback, currently my favorite riding disciplines are dressage and distance riding. I have ridden a mule down the Grand Canyon’s Bright Angel Trail, horseback to visit mustangs in the Eastern Sierras of California, and even finished a few 100-mile rides in Vermont on my Thoroughbred mare Lee--but the Gobi Gallop will certainly be my toughest endurance challenge yet!
I have wanted to visit Mongolia since learning about its rich equestrian heritage and I am so excited to be given this opportunity to experience elements of this culture first hand. Perhaps the best part about the Gobi Gallop is that through the Veloo Foundation’s efforts, our visit can create positive change for the people of Ulaanbaatar. Please consider contributing toward my fundraising goal—donations are tax-deductible for U.S. and Canadian residents, and no amount is too small. Thank you!


Five days a week, these children visit the Sanctuary where they can be warm, eat three nutritious meals and be supervised by caring adults while their parents work. At the Sanctuary, these children are provided social and educational opportunities that otherwise would be out of reach.
Those of us who have been fortunate enough to never know such hardship firsthand probably cannot appreciate the impact the Children of the Peak Project has on those it supports. I look forward to meeting some of these residents during my time in Mongolia and learning what more can be done to help.

 Seeing these children safe and warm at the Children of the Peak Sanctuary and NOT out in the cold scavenging to survive is what motivates me to keep on.  Thank you for helping me help them!
